  1. The Salamander is an AMPHIBIAN having a tail
  2. and small, weak limbs that can regenerate.
  3. Found in damp regions of the nothern 
  4. temperate zone, they are abundant in North
  5. America. Most are under 6in (15cm) long,
  6. although the giant salamander of Japan may
  7. reach 5ft (1.5m) long. They are nocturnal and
  8. feed on small animals such as insects and 
  9. worms. Salamanders are mostly terrestrial 
  10. as adults, although some are aquatic and a 
  11. few arboreal. The NEWT is a large, widely 
  12. distributed family of salamanders.
